Shmery terms

Use Shmery responsibly and keep your servers under control.

These terms define the practical rules for Shmery accounts, desktop usage, updates, paid features and self-hosted servers.

Development status

Shmery is in active development. Features, UI, server behavior, update flows and premium features can change as the product moves toward a stable public release.

Minimum age

You must be at least 13 years old to create a Shmery account. By registering, you confirm that you meet this minimum age requirement.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your account credentials, e-mail account, trusted devices and owner claim tokens secure. Do not share account sessions, device identities, reset links or server owner tokens publicly.

You can delete your Shmery account from account/security settings after confirming the action with an e-mail code. Account deletion is permanent and may remove access to account-backed features, badges, subscriptions, aliases and social data controlled by Shmery infrastructure.

Self-hosted servers

If you run a Shmery server, you are responsible for the machine, ports, firewall, server database, backups, moderation and any community rules you apply there.

Server auto-update, license checks and account-backed registered-only access are designed to keep self-hosted servers compatible with current clients and backend infrastructure.

Updates

Desktop and server updates can be required for compatibility, security and continued access to Shmery infrastructure. Server auto-update is intended to keep self-hosted servers aligned with client and backend changes.

Acceptable use

  • Do not use Shmery infrastructure to attack, scan, spam, phish or disrupt other systems.
  • Do not abuse aliases, account creation, reset e-mail, friend request, notification or messaging systems.
  • Do not attempt to bypass registered-only gates, bans, rate limits, license checks or update integrity checks.
  • Do not upload avatars, banners, messages or server content that you do not have the right to use.

Availability

Shmery is provided as an evolving communication product. We aim for reliable service, but Shmery should not be treated as guaranteed emergency infrastructure.

Self-hosted server uptime depends on the operator of that server, their VPS/provider, network configuration and update hygiene.
